Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) Sinner’s 1st 2022 Title
Italian 20-year-old and world no. 10, Jannik Sinner, claimed his first title of 2022 and sixth overall, defeating Carlos Alcaraz 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-1 at the Croatia Open. It’s his second win in four weeks over Carlos, having defeated him at Wimbledon in the fourth round. Considering Alcaraz’s success this year, it’s impressive, especially with how he turned this last match around to win so convincingly.
2.) 5th Player to Beat Swiatek
Caroline Garcia of France earned her first win over a world no. 1, defeating Iga Swiatek 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in the quarter-final of the Poland Open. It’s only the fifth time Iga has lost in 2022. Equally as impressive, Caroline followed it up with two additional wins to claim the title, which is the ninth of her career.
3.) Pickleball a Threat to Tennis?
John Wertheim of Sports Illustrated tackles the topic of pickleball and whether it’s a threat to tennis. I agree with his sentiment.

4.) Episode 2: Danielle Collins
In partnership with ModernHealth, the WTA released its second episode of The Real Me, featuring American tennis player Danielle Collins, currently ranked no. 9. In the video, Danielle shares her take on mental health, self-care, financial education and support, mentorship, and more. Through the series, you learn a lot about the featured players and what they’ve gone through to achieve success.
5.) TennisWarehouse Turns 30
TennisWarehouse, one of the internet’s most popular online tennis retailers, celebrates turning thirty with a video that looks back at the company’s origin story, including how it grew and became the business it is today.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
