Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week in tennis.
1.) $2B Tennis Tour Takeover Bid
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has made a $2B offer to take over and merge the ATP and WTA Tours. This enormous take-it-or-leave-it offer is another way Saudi Arabia wants to continue its sports involvement after making huge investments in football, Formula One, boxing, and golf.

2.) No More Novak at Indian Wells
With a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, the underdog Luca Nardi defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. Nardi went into the match as the “lucky loser” after losing his qualifying match for the main draw. He eventually entered the tournament on the back of a player withdrawal.
3.) Netflix’s “Break Point” Canceled
Netflix’s tennis documentary Break Point comes to an end after two seasons. While the series showcased rising talent such as Aryna Sabalenka, Nick Kyrgios, Iga Swiatek, Taylor Fritz, and Ons Jabeur, fans criticized it as surface-level, avoiding hard-hitting stories such as Novak’s deportation from Australia and lacking star power with the highest-profile athletes.
4.) Coco Gauff Turns 20
Coco Gauff hit a major milestone this week: she turned 20. With her No. 3 ranking, seven singles titles, and her first Grand Slam victory at last year’s US Open, Coco is just getting started. To commemorate the moment, the WTA published an insightful piece on her evolution and a glimpse into the future.
5.) Praises For Equality In Tennis
In a recent video, Iga Swiatek applauded Andy Murray and Daria Kasatkina for their outspoken efforts on gender equality in tennis. She highlighted Murray’s ability to capture the success of women in the sport and Kasatkina’s powerful voice in the conversation.
