Five Point Friday

Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.

1.) Iga’s Ruthless Run

Iga Swiatek is on another tear. Last week at the Qatar Open, she didn’t drop a single set on her way to claiming the title, only losing five games and logging three bagels, one in each match. In doing so, she broke the Open Era record for the fewest games conceded en route to a WTA title, previously set by Chris Evert in 1974. Now she’s following that result with a dominant run in Dubai, only dropping three games in her first two matches. Mind-blowing results, especially considering her recent opponents.

2.) Stan Back to Top 100

On the heels of his early success at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France, Stan Wawrinka is slated to return to the top 100 after 14 months. Suffering from various injuries over the past few years, his ranking dropped to 361 last May, his lowest since July 2003. At 37 years old, Stan knows time isn’t on his side but still wants to fight and believes he has some big results in him.

3.) Murray Keeps Fighting

Andy Murray continues to find his way through tough matches. Playing at the Qatar Open, he has reached the semifinals after three tight battles, two of which he came back from a set down. Next up, he’ll face Jiri Lehecka, who took out the No. 1 seed Andrey Rublev. Does he have it in him to go the distance? Find the highlights at 3:24.

4.) Alcaraz Vogue Spotlight

Coming off a fresh victory at the Argentina Open last week, Vogue has featured Carlos Alcaraz with a wide-ranging article covering everything from his relationship status to his “bad period” after winning the US Open. It’s a quick read that’s worth checking out.

5.) Djokovic Ties Graf

Novak Djokovic has tied Steffi Graff at 377 for the most weeks as world No. 1, a number he’ll quickly surpass. In March, he claimed the record on the men’s side, besting Federer’s 310 weeks.
