As always, the tennis season picks up quickly after the New Year. The ladies return on January 5th at the Abu Dhabi Women’s Tennis Open, followed by the Australian Open qualifying on Jan 10th in Dubai. A few weeks back, there were reports of an impending cancellation or schedule change for Indian Wells. The tournament, originally scheduled for March 8-12, has officially been postponed, with a reschedule planned later in 2021.
In October, Sam Querry, his wife, and his 8-month old son fled St. Petersburg, Russia, after testing positive for COVID-19. His actions and breach of the ATP’s health and safety protocols has resulted in a six-month probation and $20,000 fine. However, if he doesn’t have another incident in the next six months, the fine will be lifted.
Earlier this month, Federer expressed uncertainty about returning in time for the Australian Open as he recovers from a knee injury. However, it was made official on Monday when the Australian Open released an announcement of his withdrawal from the tournament.
