Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) ATP Cup Kicks Off
The inaugural ATP Cup has kicked off in Australia and will continue through Sunday, January 12.
With 24 teams competing in Brisbane, Sydney, and Perth over ten days, it’s a unique event that has seen strong interest from fans leading up to the Australian Open.
2.) Best ATP Matches of the Decade
Tennis TV digs deep into their archives to identify their picks for the best matches every year for the last decade. A selection of nine players form their picks with Djokovic and Murray making the list five times – two head to head.
3.) Murray & Delpo Season Delays
Neither Murray or Del Potro will be present for the 2020 Australian Open as their injury struggles continue.
Murray has had a ‘setback’ with his hip and is taking some additional time off as a precaution. Del Potro continues to recover from knee surgery more than six months ago. Both are targeting returns in February.
4.) Aces for a Cause
The ATP Cup has pledged a $100 donation for every ace hit during the tournament to help fight the wildfires that have been burning in Australia.
Fellow Australians, Nick Kyrgios, Alex De Minaur, and John Millman have all stepped up to personally pledge $200, $250, and $100 per ace respectively during their summer events.
I’m kicking off the support for those affected by the fires. I’ll be donating $200 per ace that I hit across all the events I play this summer. #MoreToCome #StayTuned

I like this I will go $250 per ace, just because I don’t think I’ll be hitting as many aces as you mate. ???????????? #dropthehammer https://t.co/SxMPs3XQud

I’m not at your level boys but I want to get involved. $100 for an ace over the Australian summer. #servingupsomehelp https://t.co/eIwIH0xTXT
— John Millman (@johnhmillman) January 2, 2020
Each ace served across the @ATPCup at all three venues will deliver $100 to the @RedCrossAU bushfire disaster relief and recovery efforts.
With more than 1500 aces expected to be served, the tournament contribution is expected to exceed $150,000.

5.) Funniest Tennis of the Decade
Sit back and relive some of the funny moments on the ATP Tour this decade.
