Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week in tennis.
1.) Cancha Racquet Bags [Review]
Cancha’s Voyager & Pro racquet bags deliver lightweight performance with premium materials and a sleek modular design that’s functional and stylish. In this review, I explore and test each bag and share my recommendation to help you decide if either fits your needs.
2.) Anett Kontaveit to Retire
A year ago, Anett Kontaveit reached a career-high ranking of No. 2 but has struggled with a back injury preventing her from competing at the highest level. Now, she’s announced her planned retirement after Wimbledon due to lumbar disc degeneration, preventing her from the full-scale training required to compete on tour. Anett is 27, has won six career titles, and currently ranks No. 79.

3.) Tennis On Big Screens & Small
Tennis is having a moment, with the sport as the backdrop for some intriguing releases. Leading up to Wimbledon, part 2 of the TV series Break Point was released along with a trailer for another series, Fifteen-Love, and the movie Challengers, set to be released in September. I’ve pulled together all of the trailers for a quick binge.
I have spent the past year working on this and I am thrilled to be able to share the trailer with you today 🙌. From the makers of Line of Duty and starring Aiden Turner and Ella Hyland. Enjoy! @primevideoUK #FifteenLove pic.twitter.com/YavtgQ5Hiz

4.) Venus Notches Top 50 Win
After a six-month hiatus due to a hamstring injury, 43-year-old Venus Williams returned to tennis with a hard-fought victory against world No. 48 Camila Giorgi at the Birmingham Classic. The match took over three hours with a final scoreline of 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(6). Venus is set to compete at Wimbledon for the 24th time, having been awarded a wildcard Wednesday.
5.) Tiafoe Cracks Top 10
Following his third victory of the year at the Boss Open in Germany, Frances Tiafoe achieved his first-ever top 10 ranking, becoming the third Black American to achieve the feat since James Blake and Arthur Ashe.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
