Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) Del Potro’s 4th Surgery
Unfortunately for former world #3 Juan Martin del Potro, the third time wasn’t a charm. On Tuesday, he had his fourth surgery on his right knee with the goal of trying to play in the Olympics, which kick off on Friday, July 23, 2021.

2.) Strong Field for WTA in Miami
Except for Serena, who withdrew from the Miami Open due to oral surgery, all top 10 women are playing in the Miami Open, which started Wednesday. It’s a stark contrast to the ATP, which saw big names including Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray skip the tournament.
3.) Jack Draper’s Scary Collapse
Yesterday, Jack Draper made his ATP main-draw debut at the Miami Open but struggled with the Miami heat through the first set. Trailing 6-5, Jack served, managed to hit a forehand, and then collapsed on the court as he ran for a backhand, which would lead him to retire from the match.
A reminder that tennis can be brutal ?
Not the way Britain’s Jack Draper wanted to end his first match on Tour.

4.) Clijsters Delays 2021 Return
Kim Clijsters isn’t giving up on her second career comeback, but it’s not without setbacks. Last October, she underwent right knee surgery, and in January, she contracted COVID slowing her training. As a result, she’s not where she needs to be to compete and withdrew from the Miami Open and the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, SC.

5.) Musetti Youngest in Top 100
After his strong showing at the Mexican Open last week, Lorenzo Musetti’s ranking pushed up to world #94, making him the youngest in the top 100 at 19. He joins fellow Italian Jannik Sinner, who’s also 19 and ranked #31.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
