Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week in tennis.
1.) Halep Breaks Silence
A frustrated Simona Halep broke her silence on last year’s failed drug test in an interview with Tennis Majors. She’s been serving a provisional suspension since October of last year and has yet to face an independent court to hear her side of the story, which she says includes evidence of her innocence. According to Simona, she has a hearing at the end of May but worries it may be canceled.
2.) Goodbye Line Judges
As recently as last month, rumors of Serena’s return have swirled, especially whenever she posts a photo playing tennis. However, all bets are off for the time being as she announced her second pregnancy ahead of this week’s Met Gala. Of course, that doesn’t entirely rule out a return of some sort, but for now, fans will have to sit tight.
3.) Serena’s Return
As recently as last month, rumors of Serena’s return have swirled, especially whenever she posts a photo playing tennis. However, those rumors have been squashed for the time being as she announced her second pregnancy ahead of this week’s Met Gala. Of course, that doesn’t entirely rule out a return of some sort, but for the time being, fans will have to sit tight.

4.) Shelton Behind the Back
Ben Shelton, one of the tour’s most electric young players and ranked No. 38, pulled off one of the year’s most impressive shots, hitting a behind-the-back pass on the run. It’s hard not to appreciate, and worth a quick play.
5.) Raducanu’s Surgeries
Emma Raduanu’s struggle to remain healthy has been apparent, but as is usually the case with pro athletes, it has been difficult for fans to gauge the extent of her physical challenges. In a post this week, she announced undergoing surgery on her right hand, with plans to do the same on her left. She’ll also tackle a minor ankle procedure while out. At 20, there’s plenty of concern for all the surgeries at a young age.
