Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) Absurd Alcaraz Point
During his group stage Next Gen Finals match against Brandon Nakashima, Carlos Alcaraz showed off his impressive speed and reflexes for a point that’s hard to believe he won.
2.) Naomi Back on the Court
Naomi Osaka has been on an indefinite break following her US Open defeat in September against finalist Leylah Fernandez. In her post, Naomi shares that it’s “good to be back” and drops a subtle hint for a return to the tour in Australia with an Australian Open tennis ball in one of her photos.

3.) Djokovic Racks Up Records
Novak Djokovic clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking for the seventh time with his comeback win against Daniil Medvedev at the Paris Masters. Doing so moves Djokovic ahead of Pete Sampras’ six year-end No. 1s for a stand-alone record. For now, he’s also now eclipsed Rafael Nadal for the most ATP Masters titles at 37. That’s in addition to matching Federer and Nadal with 20 Grand Slam titles this year and breaking Federer’s record for most weeks at No. 1.
4.) Emma’s New Coach
Following her first-round defeat against Wang Xinyu of China at the Linz Open, Emma Raducannu shared in a post-match interview that she has settled on a new coach, Torben Beltz. If the name sounds familiar, it’s Angelique Kerber’s former coach who helped her win her first two Grand Slam victories and ascend to world No. 1. Emma has been on the hunt for an experienced coach since her US Open win.
5.) Murray Defeats Sinner
A few weeks back, Andy Murray was 0-5 against top ten players this year. However, with his victory against Hubert Hurkacz in Vienna and Jannik Sinner in Stockholm, he seems to be picking up steam. Hopefully, he stays healthy and he can keep it rolling in the new year.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
