Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) Tsitsipas Elbow Surgery
World No. 4, Stefanos Tsitsipas, underwent elbow surgery following his early exit from the ATP Finals. The surgery appears to have been mild from his comments because he shared he’ll be headed to Dubai for pre-season in two weeks and that he’s looking forward to Australia.
Tsitsipas had an elbow surgery already.
“Next stop, pre-season in Dubai two weeks from now and then looking forward to Australia.”

2.) Peng Shuai Surfaces in Video
Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of China state-run media, the Global Times, shared a video showing Peng Shuai at a youth tennis event, the first time she’s been seen in public since accusing former vice premier, Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault. Unfortunately, there’s no way to verify exactly when the video was taken, and it did little to address the WTA’s concerns, which WTA Chairmain & CEO calls “insufficient.”

3.) Unique Tennis Art Exhibit
Visual artist, David Shrigley, set up a fun art exhibit at the Stephen Friedman Gallery in London. Called the Mayfair Tennis Ball Exchange, the interactive exhibit features 12,000 tennis balls lined up perfectly on walls and allows anyone to come in and grab a fresh tennis ball as long as they replace it with one of their own. As a result, the exhibit will take on an entirely new life.

4.) The BallMan Project
Sidelined due to an ongoing foot injury, Stan Wawrinka announced the BallMan project, a collection of 5,555 digital Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), launched on the Ethereum blockchain. Beyond artwork, the project offers elements of prizes for fans and the potential donation of $1M to the Mak-a-Wish foundation if all NFTs are sold.
5.) ATP Institutes New Rules
The ATP has announced new rules regarding toilet breaks during matches. The change comes in response to the controversy surrounding the topic in 2021, particularly Stefanos Tsitsipas’s seven-minute break during his US Open match against Andy Murray.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
Share your thoughts in the comments below and have a great weekend.
