Five Point Friday

Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.

1.) Citizen Ashe [Movie Trailer]

A new documentary will celebrate the life, legacy, and humanitarian efforts of Arthur Ashe. The film will showcase newsreel and family footage combined with interviews from his family and tennis players, including Billie Jean King and John McEnroe from childhood to tennis star. Citizen Ashe will debut in NYC on December 3rd and LA on December 10th.

2.) Kontaveit Cracks Top 10

Anette Kontaveit of Estonia has been a solid performer who’s hovered around the top 20 since 2017. However, after a string of four titles starting with the Cleaveland Championships in August and most recently the Transylvania Open last Sunday, where she defeated Simona Halep 6-2, 6-3, Kontaveit broke into the top 10 for the first time.

3.) Nadal Hits with 97-Year-Old

The Guinness Book of World Records recognizes Leonid Stanislavskyi as the oldest competitive tennis player. Last week, he competed at the 40th ITF Super-Seniors World Individual Championships in Mallorca, Spain. After the tournament, he received an invite to Rafa’s academy, where he had a rare opportunity to hit with Nadal.

4.) 2 Points Worth a Replay

In the past week, I bookmarked two entertaining points that I thought were worth revisiting. In the first, Frances Tiafoe toys with Alexander Zverev in the finals of the Vienna Open. In the second, Andy Murray leaves it all out on the court, narrowly winning a hard-fought rally against Dominik Koepfer in the opening round of the Paris Masters.

5.) Tennis Esports Oculus Demo

One of the latest releases for virtual reality gaming headset Oculus, Tennis Esports showcases what’s on the horizon for tennis when it comes to VR with their latest demo. Players can train at different difficulty levels in the game, mirrorplay against themselves, and play matches against opponents.
