Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week.
1.) Wimbledon’s Ranking Points
WTA Chief Executive Steve Simon shared on a player call Tuesday that he was formally recommending stripping Wimbledon of their ranking points in response to banning Russian and Belarusian players from The Championships. The WTA condemned Wimbledon’s decision to ban players, so their action would be consistent with their stance. Wimbledon will effectively be reduced to an exhibition event for the WTA if the decision goes through.
2.) Serena Hints Comeback
Late last week, Serena Williams posted a short video on Instagram hinting that she’s getting ready for action back on the court, which she alluded to last month in a video clip with Aaron Rodgers. She hasn’t played a WTA match since Wimbledon in 2021, where an unfortunate slip forced her to retire during the first round.
We can’t wait to see you back on the court! ????

3.) NOBULL Tennis Shoes
Known for their footwear and apparel that’s popular in gyms and with the Crossfit community, NOBULL is branching out to other sports, including tennis. The Court Trainer caters to any sport you can play on a court where multi-directional movement is common, emphasizing tennis as one of their target markets.

4.) Unstoppable Iga
I’ve talked about Iga quite a bit lately, but her dominant run seems only to get more impressive. With her convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Ons Jabeur at the Italian Open, Iga claims her fifth consecutive title and extends her winning streak to 28 matches. Swiatek is the second player after Serena to win four or more WTA 1000 titles in a single season. It’s super impressive, no matter how you slice it, and makes for an exciting lead into Roland Garros.
5.) Novak Hits 1,000 Wins
Defeating Casper Ruud at the Italian Open last Saturday to advance to the finals, Novak Djokovic became the fifth man in the Open Era to reach 1,000 career wins after Ivan Lendl, Jimmy Connors, Roger Federer, and Rafel Nadal. It took Novak 1,203 matches to reach the milestone, making him the fourth-fastest to achieve the feat.
If you have a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback. Which topic is your favorite? What would you like to see more or less of each week?
