A Candid Cancha Voyager & Pro Review & Comparison
The Cancha Voyager & Pro racquet bags are one of my picks for the best, delivering lightweight performance with premium materials and a sleek modular design that’s functional and stylish at a fair price.
If you’re on the hunt for a new tennis bag, you’ve likely stumbled upon Cancha and wondered if they’re worth the hype. Although there’s a lot to love, no racquet bag is perfect, so it’s helpful to learn what to expect before purchasing, including where the bag has room for improvement.
From their specs, design, and features to opportunities for refinement, I cover everything you need to know about the Cancha Voyager & Pro racquet bags, including my recommendation about buying them to help you decide if either bag fits your needs.
About Cancha
Founded by professional tennis player Jack Oswald in 2018, Cancha offers a line of racquet bags built to withstand the demands of travel and competition that athletes experience while playing on tour.
Jack’s first-hand experience and unique perspective on the sport, combined with Cancha’s dedicated focus on developing high-quality bags, are two reasons I gravitate toward the brand.
However, what sets them apart is their unique approach and fresh take on bag design, opting for a modular form factor that lets players customize their bag setup to suit their individual needs.
Beyond tennis, Cancha also offers bags for padel, pickleball, and backpacking, each featuring the brand’s modular design.
Specs
Cancha offers two variations of its tennis bags, the Racquet Bag Voyager and the Racquet Bag Pro. The Original Racquet Bag is the predecessor to the Voyager, which Cancha has updated with new features.
Before looking closer at the bag’s design and features, let’s review the specs for each bag, including weight, size, materials, and colorways.
Weight
Cancha opts for a super simplistic design, resulting in an incredibly lightweight offering, one of their standout features.
The smaller Voyager racquet bag weighs an impressive 1.1 lbs (500g), while the larger Pro is slightly heavier at 1.2 lbs (550g). That means you can carry around more gear with less effort.
Of course, if you’re eyeing either of these bags, you’re likely checking out the accessories, so here’s the weight of those bags too.
- Wet-dry bag: 0.66 lbs (298g)
- Day bag: 0.68 lbs (310g)
- Day Bag XL: 0.99 lbs (451 g*)
*I removed the straps to weigh the Day bag XL, which you wouldn’t use if you were attaching it to the side of the Voyager or Pro racquet bags.
Even if you add one or two of these accessories, you still end up with a lightweight tennis bag, which is excellent.
Although a lighter-weight bag is ideal, when compared to other bags, one thing you’ll want to consider is what you’re giving up (if anything) for the lighter weight. Said another way, lighter isn’t always better if a bag’s added features meet your needs, increasing weight.
With that said, if a lightweight offering is a priority, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option than the Cancha Voyager and Pro.
Size & Dimensions
The Cancha racquet bags come in two different sizes. The Voyager is a smaller option that fits up to four racquets, while the Pro is larger, allowing players to store up to six frames.
Here are the dimensions for each bag listed on Cancha’s website, along with my measurements.
Cancha’s Measurements
Bag | Height | Width* | Depth** |
Voyager | 28.75 in / 73.20 cm / 732 mm | 12.90 in / 33.00 cm / 330 mm | 5.88 in / 15.00 cm / 150 mm |
Pro | 28.70 in / 73.00 cm / 730 mm | 10.60 in / 27.00 cm / 270 mm | 12.90 in / 33.00 cm / 330 mm |
My Measurements
Bag | Height | Width* | Depth** |
Voyager | 27.50 in / 69.85 cm / 698.5 mm | 12.50 in / 31.75 cm / 317.5 mm | 5.50 in / 13.97 cm / 139.7 mm |
Pro | 28.00 in / 71.12 cm / 711.2 mm | 11.75 in / 29.85 cm / 298.5 mm | 7.75 in / 19.69 cm / 196.9 mm |
*Width: measured at the bag’s widest point.
**Depth: how far the bag expands with max racquets (4 for the Voyager and 6 for the Pro)
The main difference between the two bags is depth, with the Pro being 2.25 inches deeper than the Voyager, which makes sense because it’s intended to fit two extra racquets.
The Voyager is perfect for players looking for a minimalist carry that stores their racquets and a few extra items while allowing you to add an accessory to the front of the bag.
However, the larger Pro racquet bag is ideal if you’re looking for a sleek look with extra storage capacity. The main compartment is bigger, and you can attach accessories to either side of the bag, giving you even more space for your gear.
Neither bag is massive, so if you’re looking for a racquet bag with a smaller profile, these bags are worth considering.
Materials
To construct its racquet bags, Cancha relies on a thick and durable polyester ripstop, which protects against rips and tears to ensure your bag lasts for years. It’s also weather resistant to protect your gear from the elements and accidental spills.
The combination gives the Voyager and Pro a rugged feel that’s relatively firm to the touch, lending confidence to the bag’s ability to withstand the demands of travel and everyday use.
Finally, each bag provides robust attachment panels for securing accessories to keep your extra gear strapped.
Design & Features
The Cancha Voyager and Pro racquet bags offer a sleek profile and technical materials for a sporty feel. In this section, I’ll review and provide my thoughts on its design and features.
Logo & Branding
I’ve always been a big fan of understated branding, and Cancha does an excellent job in this regard.
On the Voyager Bag, they have a simple black patch with their logo debossed into it, which, if you go with the bag’s black color, you can barely see.
It does stand out more on the Parisian blue colorway, but there are plenty of other patches on the bag, so it doesn’t stick out too much, offering a clean look. Besides that, the bag has zero branding, letting the design do the talking.
Cancha has a unique logo implementation on the Pro racquet bag with a velcro logo patch, which you can easily remove or swap out with something else. I love this idea, especially because you can search for velcro patches online to come up with a variety that you can use to swap out for something more personal.
Other than the patch, the Pro bag has no additional branding.
If Cancha does introduce anything else, subtle touches like branded zipper pulls, backpack strap pulls, etc., would be ideal.
Colors
If you’re buying the Voyager racquet bag, you have two options for colors, black and Parisian blue, which is lighter and brighter blue that’s perfect for players who enjoy a pop of color.
Currently, the Pro racquet bag only comes in black, and that’s fine by me. I think it’s the best color to start with, as it does a great job of hiding natural wear and tear.
On both bags, you’ll also get red zipper pulls. Meanwhile, the accessories are all black with red zipper pulls, and since the Parisian blue bag’s secondary color is black, these look great on the Voyager and Pro bags.
For now, players will find additional colors for the Original racquet bag, including cardinal red, charcoal grey, and forest green.
Large Racquet Compartment
The Voyager and Pro racquet bags’ main feature is the large racquet compartments that open at the center of the bag for storing your frames and any other gear you have. Like all of the zippers on Cancha bags, these are heavy-duty and weather-resistant to protect your equipment.
The Voyager can store up to four racquets, while the Pro can stash up to six. Of course, these numbers mainly provide context for how much gear you can fit in them. Most players will find they store fewer racquets than the max, leaving room for other items they want to bring to the court.
Of course, if you have the maximum number of racquets for the bag you buy, you can always attach a few accessories to ramp up your storage, which we’ll cover later in this review.
The only downside to the main compartments for these bags is the lack of internal organization features. The Pro racquet bag offers a single large compartment, so if you have any smaller items, they’ll be free floating around the bag, except for some help from the internal divider.
The Voyager does it a bit better, with a single medium-sized internal mesh zip pocket, which is a huge bonus. Still, the bag would benefit from one or two additional pockets. Short of having those, you have a few options.
First, you could buy one or two of Cancha’s accessories that attach to the outside of the bag or fit inside to give yourself some extra organization for smaller items.
Alternatively, or in addition, you could buy a few smaller packing cubes or an accessory bag that fits inside to keep your items organized and prevent them from free-floating.
Padded Racquet Divider
Getting into the features, the Voyager and Pro racquet bags each come with a padded racquet divider, which uses Velcro to adhere to the bag, making it easy to remove if you choose.
Although sound in concept, the divider is only somewhat functional. First, there’s only one divider in each bag, but the Voyager stores up to four, and the Pro up to six racquets.
Of course, if you only have two racquets, it might do the trick, but for me, it still falls flat because it’s not tall enough to prevent the two racquets from coming in contact.
I found the racquet divider most useful to separate my gear from my racquets, i.e., two on one side in the Voyager and my towel, balls, change of clothes, etc., on the other side.
Overall, the dividers are a solid area where the Cancha Voyager and Pro racquet bags could improve, but they’re not a dealbreaker.
Removable Backpack Straps
The Voyager and Pro racquet bags each come with removable backpack straps, which is how most players carry them.
The straps don’t offer the most padding of any bag on the market, but I’ve found them plenty sufficient. It might become an issue for some if you maxed out your bag’s capacity and lugged it around for 30-plus minutes, but that’s not typical usage.
Having them removable is also ideal for traveling. You can take them off, pack them in the bag, and reinstall them once you reach your destination, which prevents them from getting caught up in the process, e.g., on an airport conveyor.
Adjustable Sternum Strap
To distribute the bag’s weight more evenly and take pressure off your shoulders, the Voyager and Pro racquet bags each come with a sternum strap that clips across your chest.
As a bonus, these straps are adjustable to six locations up and down the shoulder straps, ensuring you can get a comfortable fit regardless of size and shape. They’re also removable, so if you don’t carry much gear or find they get in the way, you can easily take them off and go without them.
Durable Side Carry Handles
Aside from picking and carrying the Voyager and Pro racquet bags with the backpack straps, you can also use the two durable carry handles on either side of the main zip compartment to pick up your bag or tote it around at your side.
Small External Zip Pocket
On the front of both bags, a small zipper pocket can hold a few accessories or items like your phone and keys. It’s perfect for quick access to those types of belongings and has a weather-proof zipper to ensure they stay protected.
YKK Zippers
All of Cancha’s bags feature reliable YKK zippers with a weather-resistant layer that closes over the top of them for a clean look and to prevent water from getting through.
I also appreciate how Cancha went with brightly colored zipper pulls, so they’re easier to spot when you open your bag.
Extra Top Carry Handle (Voyager Only)
If you opt for the Voyager, you’ll get an extra carry handle at the top of the bag right above where the shoulder straps attach and a practical addition that I’d love to see added to the Pro.
If you lean your bag up against a fence, it’s an ideal handle to pick up your bag on the go, but it’s also suitable for pulling your bag out of storage, such as a packed car trunk.
Dedicated Water Bottle Pocket (Voyager Only)
Another Voyager feature is the addition of a dedicated water compartment on the bag’s side.
I love how it’s large enough to fit a bigger water bottle and makes it so you don’t have to store it inside the bag, decreasing the likelihood of spills that get all over your stuff. For reference, I found my 32 oz Hydroflask to fit in without issue.
Of course, if you prefer, the water bottle holder just as easily doubles as storage for a can of balls.
Internal Mesh Zip Pocket (Voyager Only)
We covered this in the section on the main compartments for Cancha’s racquet bags, but it’s worth noting again.
If you opt for the smaller Voyager bag, you’ll have an additional medium-sized internal mesh zip pocket for keeping smaller items organized and away from your racquets.
Accessories
When it comes to the Cancha Voyage and Pro racquet bags, it’s all about the modular accessories you can attach to the outside to customize your bag for your specific needs.
Wet-Dry Bag
The wet-dry bag is a mid-size weather-resistant accessory with a smaller removable bag inside, which can attach to the outside of your racquet bag within minutes. If you’ve never used one before, wet-dry bags allow you to keep dry gear dry or wet gear separate from other equipment you want to remain dry.
All you do is toss in your gear, fold down the top, and clip the bag shut to keep the contents sealed and separate from everything else in your bag. For most players, the most common use case will be to stash their dirty clothes in a wet-dry bag, which seals in the smell and the moisture.
There are clasps on the bottom of the smaller removable wet-dry bag, so you can attach it to the inside of the bag it comes in, but you can also use it separately. For example, you might put the smaller bag inside your racquet bag, freeing up this new accessory compartment for other gear.
Day Bag
Cancha’s Day Bag is the smallest accessory you can attach to the outside of your racquet bag. It has a front zipper, a main compartment zipper, and an internal zip pocket. Combined, they afford extra storage and organization for your racquet bag.
However, true to the bag’s name, you can also use this bag and its removable shoulder strap as a small day bag when traveling, perfect for toting around some essentials when you’re on the go.
Regarding size, it has an 8L volume with room to sore up to an 11-inch tablet, along with other small accessories.
Day Bag XL
If the day bag looks too small or you’re looking for maximum storage for your racquet bag, then the Day Bag XL will be your best bet. Like all Cancha’s accessories, it’s lightweight, durable, weather resistant, and can attach to your racquet bag.
The bag can fit up to a 14-inch laptop with a dedicated sleeve. There’s an internal zip mesh pocket, two pen slots, and two slip pockets for items like your phone. You’ll also find another zip pocket outside the bag to quickly access small items.
The main compartment opens flat like a suitcase to more easily organize your gear inside the bag, which is a useful feature.
As a bonus, you can carry the bag four ways: as a backpack with removable straps, as a shoulder bag with removable shoulder straps, at your side like a briefcase using the dedicated carry handle, or attached to your racquet bag.
The Cancha Day Bag XL has a 15L volume, nearly twice as large as the standard Day Bag, delivering maximum carrying capacity to go along with your Voyager or Pro racquet bag.
Returns & Warranty
To help instill confidence in your purchase, Cancha offers a solid return policy and warranty consistent with other top brands.
30-Day Return Policy
If you’re all in on the Cancha racquet bag, you can confidently purchase it, knowing that you can easily return it within 30 days for a refund if it doesn’t meet your exact needs in person.
However, it’s worth noting that Cancha will not cover return shipping, which will be your responsibility. If you’re in the US or UK, shipping is free for orders over $100 or £100, so if you do opt for a return, you’ll only be paying for it one way because both the Voyager and Pro racquet bags exceed that cost.
1-Year Warranty
The Voyager and Pro racquet bags each come with a 1-year warranty, so if anything happens to your bag beyond normal wear and tear, you can get in touch, and they’ll help sort it out.
Keep in mind that Cancha’s return and warranty policies might change over time, so be sure to check those pages on their website for the latest details.
My Recommendation
The Cancha Voyager and Pro racquet bags, along with their unique modular design and accessories, deliver excellent performance that easily outclasses traditional racquet bags available on the market.
Although well-suited for players of all ages and levels, these bags will find a sweet spot with tennis players looking for a lightweight, minimalistic, and stylish racquet bag that’s highly durable and easily customized for custom appearance and storage.
