I am a NTRP 4.5 player and an instructor. My question is concerning the toss. I’ve heard from some instructors that the toss affects the kind of serve you hit. Others say it’s the grip change and you keep the same toss. What is your feedback on this issue?
Hi Justin
You are ranked much higher and I am surprised with the question. However, in the research I have done so far – toss alone cannot fix the serve. Supination and Pronation of the wrist seems to do most of the influence along with the leg drive and the motion forward with the racquet followed through. I am only ranked 3.5, played only as an adult, I am able to generate about 80mph serves. I am sure, it can get much better with stronger core, better toss, and the rest. My two cents, this is no way an expert opinion.
