    The semi western is the grip of choice for players that wish to it with more topspin. You will need to hit through your strike zone in the direction of where you want the ball to go. The topspin stroke is a low to high stroke pattern, the more you go low to high through the strike zone the more spin. Turn your shoulders and act like your throwing your racket to the other side of the court, contact the ball to the side and before it is even with your body, then finish somewhere around shoulder level. This will give you the feel of hitting through the strike zone for a (not flat) lower topspin ball over the net.
