Five Point Friday
Here’s your roundup of the five most interesting things I’m enjoying or thinking about this week in tennis.
1.) Sinner Makes History
On top of his epic 7-5, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2) win over Novak Djokovic this week in Turin, Italy, Jannik Sinner became the first Italian to reach the semifinals of the ATP Finals in history. Can he go the distance to claim the cup?
2.) Canada Wins BJK Cup
For the first time in its 60-year history, Canada won the Billie Jean King Cup, defeating Italy 2-0 in Seville, Spain. Leylah Fernandez sealed the deal with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jasmine Paolini.

3.) ATP Finals 8 Hanging Out
During their time at the ATP Finals, the eight qualifiers sat down to nominate each other for a series of entertaining questions, e.g., Who is the most likely to shed a tear after a match? Can you guess who they nominated?

4.) Osaka’s Official Return Dates
The Brisbane International, a warm-up event ahead of the Australian Open, announced that Naomi Osaka will make her return at the tournament, which will run from 12/31/23 – 1/7/24. Naomi hasn’t competed on tour since September 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.

5.) John Millman Set to Retire
34-year-old John Millman, who famously defeated Roger Federer to reach the 2018 US Open quarterfinals, will retire after the Australian summer. According to the Aussie, age and injuries have caught up to him, and he’s ready to move on and try something new.
All good things come to an end.
