The Millennium Estoril Open is an ATP 250 clay court tournament held in the picturesque town of Estoril on the southern coast of Portugal.

It takes the place of the long-standing Portugal Open, which closed up shop in 2014 due to the lack of sponsorships required to run the event. As a result, in 2015, the Estoril Open took its place, moving from the Jamor sports complex in Oeiras to the Clube de Ténis do Estoril.

For 2023, the tournament’s total prize money is €630,705, the largest purse in its short history, equating to $687,689 and £551,854. These sums represent an 18% bump over the prior year.

This year’s singles champion will earn €85,605, while the runner-up will pocket €49,940, both 5.3% increases over 2022.

Doubles pairs saw similar improvements in prize money, with the winners taking home €29,740 and the runner-up €15,910, again representing 5.3% increases compared to the prior year.

Prize Money by Year

Every year, prize money changes at the Millennium Estoril Open. Although many fans expect it to go up yearly, it drops periodically. For example, in 2021, prize money dropped 20% due to the pandemic and limited crowd capacity to help keep fans at a safe distance from each other.

Ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise, and concessions represent the lion’s share of the tournament’s revenue. In a year like 2021, when ticket sales dropped, and organizers canceled the event the prior year, it’s unsurprising that prize money declined accordingly.

The following table outlines the yearly prize money offered at the Millennium Estoril Open since its first year of operation in 2015.

Year Total Prize Money % Change
2023 €630,705 18%
2022 €534,555 27%
2021 €419,470 -20%
2020 Canceled
2019 €524,340 5%
2018 €501,345 4%
2017 €482,060 4%
2016 €463,520 5%
2015 €439,405
