The US Men’s Clay Court Championship is an ATP 250 tournament hosted at the River Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX.

The event, which first opened its doors in 1910, is unique on the ATP calendar because it’s the only tournament in the United States played on clay courts as it has since its inception.

For 2023, the US Men’s Clay Court Championship’s total prize money reaches its highest at $718,245, translating to €658,608 and £576,477, for a 19% bump over 2022, which is on par with other events in the series.

The 28-draw singles tournament’s winner will take home a fair share of the purse at $97,760, which equates to €89,642 and £78,453, while the runner-up will claim a solid payday of $57,025 or €52,297 and £45,769 for his efforts. These figures represent 22% of the total prize money.

On the doubles side, the champions will split $33,960 or €31,146 and £27,259. The team landing in the runner-up position will win roughly half that amount at $18,170 or €16,664 £14,585.

2023 Full Breakdown

Like most tournaments on the ATP Tour, organizers distribute roughly 80% of prize money at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship to the singles event. The remaining 20% supports the 16-team doubles event.

In both disciplines, a player or team progressing further through the tournament will increase their winnings substantially. For example, a player who exits the quarterfinal in singles earns 181% more than a player who loses in the first round.

For easy review, I’ve summarized the US Men’s Clay Court Championship’s prize money by round for singles and doubles and converted earnings to euros and sterling pounds, which I calculated using the prior year’s exchange rate on the day of the final for a close approximation of value.
