Miami Open Prize Money

2023 Breakdown & Historicals

By Jon Crim

The Miami Open is the second of nine ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 tournaments held annually and one of the largest tennis events outside the Grand Slams, with lucrative prize money on offer for men and women.

Its position on the calendar is unique, occurring immediately after the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells for what is known as the ‘Sunshine Double,’ referring to the two back-to-back 1000-level tournaments.

In 2019, the tournament moved from Crandon Park, part of a small island off the coast of Miami, to Miami Gardens at the Hard Rock Stadium to support the event’s continued growth, which boasts 30 tennis courts and the largest video screen of any tennis event worldwide.

For 2023, the total prize money on offer at the Miami Open is $17,600,000, equating to €16,423,440 and £14,343,120 for a mere 2.52% bump compared to 2022, the second-highest purse in the event’s history.

In 2014, the tournament began offering equal prize money to men and women, which means for 2023, the purse is $8,800,000 for both ATP and WTA players.

The singles champions at the Miami Open will earn an impressive $1,262,220 for winning the tournament, while the runner-ups will each make roughly half of that or $662,360. Both amounts represent just over a 2.5% increase compared to last year.

The winning doubles teams will split a check for $436,730, while the pairs who finish runner-up will share $231,660. Similar to singles, these figures are 2.5% increases versus 2022.

The following sections provide a complete breakdown of prize money at the Miami Open for quick comparison. You’ll also find currency conversions from US dollars to the euro and sterling pound.

2023 Full Breakdown

At a high level, we can break prize money at the Miami Open down by disciple, with singles receiving 80% of the purse and doubles 20%.

However, we can break prize money down further by round, where players earn more the more matches they win. For context, the singles winners will receive 14% of the total prize money, which is over 67 times more than a player who loses in the first round.

The following tables break down prize money at the Miami Open by round. You can scroll left to right to view the entire data set. For a quick comparison, I’ve converted US dollars to euros and sterling pounds, which I calculate using the prior year’s exchange rate on the day of the final for a close approximation of value.
