BMW Open Prize Money
2024 Breakdown & Historicals
One of four annual ATP tournaments in Germany, the BMW Open is a 250 series event held outdoors on clay courts at Munich’s picturesque MTTC Iphitos tennis club.
Previously known as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, the tournament first began in 1900 on grass courts because that’s all the club had at the time, later transitioning to clay.
Under its current form as the BMW Open, Germans have won the tournament nine times, with past winners including, more recently, Alexander Zverev, Philipp Kohlschreiber, and Tommy Hass.
For 2024, the total prize money reaches a record high of €579,320, which translates to $628,884 and £494,774. This represents a respectable 3% increase over the previous edition in 2023.
This year, the singles champion will claim a check for €81,184, while the runner-up will earn €47,352 for his efforts. Both are 6% decreases compared to 2023, roughly what all rounds received.
Meanwhile, the BMW Open’s winning doubles team will split €28,195, and the runner-up will share €15,088, a 5% decrease for both.
This guide details a complete breakdown of the BMW Open’s prize money, including historical data for comparison and currency conversion to US dollars and sterling pounds.

2024 Full Breakdown
Like most ATP tournaments, the BMW Open’s organizers distribute roughly 80% of prize money to the larger 28-player singles draw. The remaining 20% goes to the 16-team doubles event, resulting in significantly less compensation for these participants.
Beyond the split between singles and doubles, prize money further breaks down by how far a player progresses in the tournament. For example, the singles champion will earn 14 times more than a player exiting the event in the first round.
Below, I’ve summarized a complete breakdown of the BMW Open’s 2024 prize money by round for singles and doubles. I’ve also converted earnings to US dollars and sterling pounds. I calculate historical data using the exchange rate on the final day of each year.

Prize Money by Year
Every year, prize money at the BMW Open changes, with the tournament’s success greatly influencing available funds.
Although the goal of any tournament is to increase prize money, it sometimes pans out differently. For example, in 2008, prize money declined by 10.7%, with factors like ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise, and concessions impacting revenues.
The BMW Open has an excellent track record of increasing prize money despite a few off years. In 2018, the tournament surpassed half a million euros for the first time, and the purse continues to grow. The following table outlines prize money at the event since 2000.
